Along with a letter regarding universal K-3 literacy screening, parents will be receiving a "Parental Strategies for Assisting Your Child" packet. This packet is an invaluable resource for all parents of early readers. If you have ever asked, "What can I do at home?" this guide can support our work at school to best help young readers.

With the passing of the Arizona healthy schools act (A.R.S. 15.242.01) all Arizona public schools are prohibited from selling or distributing ultra processed foods. This includes foods brought in by parents for the purposes of parties or celebrations. Foods that include any of the designated 11 ingredients may not be distributed to children in school. Parents may send these foods with their own children for their own lunch or snack purposes, but they may not be shared with other students. Cupcakes that have been commonly purchased for classroom parties often contained these ingredients. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new state law.

Digital Signature Pages are LIVE! These digital forms are REQUIRED for ALL students that will be attending any SMUSD school in August for the 2026-2027 school year. Please look for the QR code that coincides with your child’s school. Desert Sunset (DSES), Tartesso (TMS), Winters Well (WWES), Ruth Fisher (RFMS), Tonopah Valley (TVHS). Please be sure to fill a form out for EACH student that will be attending. (For example: if you have 3 students that will attend Desert Sunset then fill out the DSES 3 times. Or if you have one at Winters Well and one at Tonopah Valley then fill out the WWES once and the TVHS once. Etc.)
Also, please fill out the transportation QR code for EACH one of your children, even if service is not needed at this time. Forms can also be found here: https://www.smusd90.org/page/registration
Please help us kick off the new school year seamlessly by completing these forms ahead of time. Thank you.
